Ho'okipa Beach Park

This is North Shore’s unofficial surf headquarters — a legendary spot where pro surfers and windsurfers put on a daily show, especially in the winter. Strong waves, constant wind, and powerful reef breaks make it better for watching than swimming, but it's still an incredible place to post up. Around sunset, dozens of Hawaiian green sea turtles haul out onto the sand at the east end, creating a rare and peaceful sight.

Baldwin Beach Park

Just outside of Paia, Baldwin Beach is a long, sandy stretch perfect for walking, running, or just kicking back. It’s one of the more accessible beaches on the North Shore and popular with both locals and visitors. There’s a protected baby beach area at the east end that’s calm and ideal for young kids. The main beach can get rough depending on the swell, but when it’s mellow, it’s a beauty. Facilities, lifeguards, and plenty of parking make this one easy and dependable.

Paia Bay Beach

Located just steps from Paia town, this beach has a youthful, laid-back energy. Expect a mix of locals, surfers, volleyball games, and folks fresh off a smoothie run. The waves can get punchy here, so it’s not always the best for swimming, but great for bodyboarding or just watching the action. Super convenient if you’re already in town, and a perfect spot to chill after grabbing lunch or doing some window shopping.

Tavares Bay (Tavares Beach)

A quieter, low-key alternative to the busier Paia beaches, Tavares is a small sandy cove tucked off the highway with decent snorkeling and a mellow crowd. Locals often bring their pups here, and you’ll see people surfing or just chilling in beach chairs with a good book. No big facilities, but it’s a peaceful little spot with that true North Shore feel — raw and real.

Spreckelsville Beach / Baby Beach

Sprecks, as locals call it, is a string of hidden beach pockets along the coast between Paia and Kahului. One of the main draws is Baby Beach, a protected lagoon-like area perfect for kids, thanks to an offshore reef that keeps the water calm. The surrounding beaches are narrow and a bit more rugged, but great for windsurfing, beach walks, or catching a quiet sunset away from the crowds.

Kanaha Beach Park

Close to Kahului Airport, Kanaha is a wide, often windy beach that’s hugely popular with windsurfers and kiteboarders. It’s also a local favorite for BBQs, paddling, and weekend gatherings. Not the most glamorous beach, but it’s spacious, has full facilities, and a relaxed, community vibe. Depending on the wind, you’ll either get a peaceful swim or a front-row seat to some wild ocean sports.
